The “Dixie II” is the fastest motor boat in the world. Captain Pearce piloted “Dixie II” in numerous other races in eastern waters and at Hempstead Harbor made a worlds record of 36.04 miles an hour. Designed by Clinton Crane, for sports racer, Edward Schroeder, and built by Henry Nevins of City Island, NY she was powered by a Crane Whitman 8 cylinder engine of 220 horse power. Dixie II was one of the last displacement style unlimited racers to win the highly sought after Harmsworth Trophy by defeating two British and one American challenger.
